Rather frequently, I will meet someone on an airplane or in a meeting who will say, “I wish you could mentor my daughter.” I know that this is a compliment. And I know that they are seeing me as a woman who has an interesting life and who is doing interesting work. They want their daughters to see more examples of women in those situations in an effort to help them see what is possible in the world. After all, representation matters.
